Spiritus8® Salon
Perennial Philosophy
and
the Expansion of Perception
September 25–27, 2026
Aldous Huxley proposed that the world’s mystical traditions share a common insight: that ordinary perception filters reality, and that expanded states can momentarily widen that aperture. Through Huxley’s reflections and the mystical writings of Meister Eckhart, this salon explores the perennial philosophy and the possibility of perceiving the world anew.
Readings
Aldous Huxley, The Doors of Perception
Recommended edition: Harper Perennial
Kindle edition: Harper Perennial Kindle edition
Excerpt: The opening section describing Huxley’s mescaline experience and the shift in perception that follows. Approximately pp. 3–19 in most editions.
Meister Eckhart
Selected Sermon: The Eye with Which I See God Is the Eye with Which God Sees Me
Recommended edition: Penguin Classics
Kindle edition: Penguin Classics Kindle edition
Together, these texts suggest that expanded states do not create something new. Rather, they reveal dimensions of reality ordinarily obscured — inviting us to see the world, and ourselves, with fresh perception.
